Welcome to the Civilian Police Academy

Few people would argue against the fact that law enforcement is one of the most fascinating careers one could choose to pursue.  And you will never, ever, get the real, inside scoop of how a law enforcement agency works or why things happen the way they do on an evening newscast or on one of those prime time, "solve the crime in one-hour," television shows.  But you can get a first hand, up close and personal look at how the Orange County Sheriff's Office works, right from the men and women who are on the streets doing the job, at The Orange County Sheriff's Office Civilian Police Academy.  This free 12-week program is open to any citizen on a first come, first served basis.  Your instructors will include homicide detectives, robbery investigators, crime scene investigators, and the undercover deputies working dangerous narcotics investigations.  You'll hear from members of the SWAT team, crime prevention officers, and even receive a tour of the agency's Communications Center.  Seating is extremely limited for this popular program so we encourage you to submit your application early.  You won't find a better way to learn about your Sheriff's Office and the dangerous and difficult jobs that the men and women who serve within it do than by attending our civilian academy!   On behalf of Sheriff Demings I would like to extend my personal invitation to you to join your fellow citizens and attend one of our upcoming Civilian Police Academies.  I sincerely believe it will be an experience you will never forget.

                                                                    Major Danny Vereen
                                                                   Commander - Support Services Division
