"Children are at a significantly greater risk from poisoning death and exposure than adults because they are smaller, have faster metabolic rates, and are less able to physically handle toxic chemicals. In addition, their natural curiousity and desire to put everything in their mouths increases their poisoning risk."
~National Safe Kids Campaign
Florida is a lush, green state with many different types of plants growing naturally. Some are harmless — a few are even edible. Many, however, are quite poisonous. Only experts should try to determine the difference, but being able to recognize some of the most harmful plants can reinforce the poison prevention message.
Children can take a guided tour of the Poisonous Plant Recognition Garden at the Children's Safety Village to learn more about native plants and see them in a natural setting.
