A “miniature city” known as the Children’s Safety Village is teaches a curriculum to prevent childhood accidents and injuries. This unique concept provides children with a realistic approach in recognizing safety hazards found in everyday life. The “city” includes miniature buildings with paved streets, sidewalks, a functioning traffic light, a railroad crossing, a fire safety house, and a water safety complex. Children learn how to practice safety through hands-on exercises, role-playing activities, and other participatory techniques. Studies prove that children who experience hand-on safety instructions have significantly fewer accidents.
The Children’s Safety Village is open to Day Care Centers, Private Schools, Public Schools, Head Start Programs, and other groups. Classes offered include; bicycle, pedestrian, water, fire prevention, danger person awareness, firearms injury prevention, poison prevention and car seat safety.
Florida leads the nation in drowning, more than three times the national average.
Children start 70% of all fires resulting in the death of a child.
Every minute, four children are brain damaged as a result of a bicycle accident.
The Children’s Safety Village reaches out to educate 60,000 children each year. Approx 10,000 children are brought to the Children Safety Village to receive hand-on education.
The Children’s Safety Village of Central Florida is a Not-For- Profit Organization. If you would like to contribute funds to enhance the education provided or to expand the activities and visual effects at our facility making our community healthier and safer please contact safekids@ocfl.net .
